In a gruesome discovery, the dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman, identified as Mahalakshmi, was found stored in a refrigerator in a flat in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area on Saturday.

The woman has been identified as Mahalakshmi, Hemant Das's wife, who used to live alone in the flat. The police have recovered 30 pieces from the 165-litre refrigerator. More body parts could be found. The neighbours initially thought the foul smell was coming from the house because of rotten food.

Upon arriving at the scene in Bengaluru, police officers forced entry into the first-floor apartment of the three-storied building and found the body stuffed in fridge.

The reason for the killing is still unknown, but police suspect it to be a murder that happened about a week ago. An investigation has been launched into the matter

The deceased woman hailed from West Bengal or Chhattisgarh. The incident came to light after her neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the victim's house for two days and informed her relatives.
