Seattle’s multi-billion-dollar waterfront renovation was always about connecting Pike Place Market and downtown Seattle to Puget Sound and the new 20-acre Waterfront Park. With the Oct. 4 opening of the elevated Overlook Walk,

The $200 million project is part of a major overhaul of Seattle's waterfront. It's being touted as the city's largest collection of civic projects since the 1962 World’s Fair.

The park reaches from the Pike Place MarketFront seating and retail area to the roof of the Seattle Aquarium’s new Ocean Pavilion ( a series of tropical exhibits that opened last month) and descends directly with sloped pathways to the waterfront promenade.

A project consultant estimates that Seattle’s Waterfront Park could attract up to 20 million visitors annually, with around 90,000 daily during peak summer periods. Completion of the $70 million Overlook Walk is a big part of that.

The Overlook Walk, a pathway that connects the Seattle Waterfront, Pike Place Market, and downtown, is set to open on Friday.

Construction began in 2022 on the multi-level park, which sits on the footprint of the former Alaskan Way Viaduct.
