Jimmy Carter, who served one term as president from 1977 to 1981, became the first president to live 100 years on Tuesday. Celebrations were held at the White House, The Carter Center in Atlanta and his hometown.

Jimmy Carter is the first American president to reach 100. Locals in his hometown of Plains, Ga., are excited to celebrate the man they know as “Mr. Jimmy.”

Plains is celebrating President Carter’s 100th birthday! In honor of Jimmy Carter’s historic day, the city planned an entire day filled with special events. Tuesday morning, a naturalization ceremony was held at Plains High School where 100 people from 30 countries were granted US citizenship.
