While some states are moving toward statewide policies on cell phones, Maryland restrictions vary by county, although there seems to be genereal agreement that phones at school are not conducive to learning.

A Henrico County Public Schools principal is reminding parents to ensure their children bring only one cell phone to school. J.R. Tucker High School’s principal, Arthur G. Raymond III, emailed parents about some students attempting to evade the county’s cell phone policy in August.

A Walnut Hills High School student began a petition to ban Public Schools' new phone pouch policy. The district said the policy is aimed at cutting out distractions, but the student believes there could be some unintended consequences.

I was concerned that we would have a lot of pushback from our students and all our families, but generally we had broad support from our parents and from our students,” Penns Valley Area’s superintendent said.
