The junior doctors called off their protest after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government accepted most of the demands of the medics.

While the 41-day-long agitation began after August 9, when a junior doctor was raped and murdered in the premises of Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, the doctors began a sit-in protest outside Swasthya Bhawan on September 10.

The government has approved the hiring of 1,514 additional security personnel, comprising 910 men and 604 women, for 29 hospitals and medical colleges. This initiative aims to strengthen security across all medical colleges in response to the tragic rape and murder of R G Kar.

The junior doctors expressed “unhappiness” lack of concrete assurances and said their sit-in protests would continue.
