LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Longboat Key Fire Rescue Department speaks about the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Longboat Key Fire Rescue is currently on the island assessing damages and recovery. Due to a gas leak on the north side of the island, the island will remain closed until that has been fixed, according to Chief Dezzi.

Re-entry began at 1 p.m. Officials ask that residents access Longboat Key from the south entrance only since FDOT emergency road repairs are ongoing in Bradenton Beach, and Longboat Pass Bridge is still closed.
