Days after Hurricane Helene made landfall, devastating flooding, road closures and power outages remain in hard-hit areas. There have been at least 88 deaths as a result of the storm, according to an NBC News count of confirmed fatalities. A third of them were reported in North Carolina.

The storm surge, wind damage and inland flooding from Hurricane Helene have been catastrophic, flooding neighborhoods, stranding residents, destroying homes and toppling trees in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Dozens have been killed.

According to CoreLogic’s initial analysis, insured losses from wind and storm surge could range between $3 billion and $5 billion. The approximation does not account for inland flooding from precipitation, which will be included in updated assessments after the storm’s passage.
