Aurora finalizes plan to acquire Geauga Lake and 48 acres of former SeaWorld property
On Monday, Aurora finalized a deal to purchase Geauga Lake along with 48 acres from the former Sea World Park. News 5 first reported on the deal when it was brought to council back in June 2023. The plan is to develop the property into a beach, trails and even restore the old wavepool into a functioning pool.

For more than a century, people flocked to Geauga Lake until the last of the theme parks around it closed nearly a decade ago. But, if all goes as planned, people will once again be able to enjoy the lake and surrounding property.

AURORA, Ohio (WJW) – There is new life planned for Geauga Lake. The City of Aurora announced Monday that it had purchased Geauga Lake, along with 48 acres of lakefront property. According to a press release, the city is in the “master plan stages” to redevelop the property into a public park that would include a pool and a beach.
