DePrince died less than 24 hours before her mother, Elaine DePrince, died while undergoing a "routine procedure." The family says it's a tragic coincidence.

Just one day after Boston Ballet principal soloist Michaela Mabinty DePrince died at the age of 29, her adoptive mother also passed away from an unrelated illness. Elaine DePrince, the late ballerina’s mom, died on Sept. 11, died during a routine procedure in preparation for a surgery, according to family spokesperson Jess Volinski.

Elaine DePrince, the mother of ballerina Michaela DePrince, died within 24 hours of her daughter, having no idea she had died. Michaela DePrince, born Mabinty Bangura, came to the United States from an orphanage in war-torn Sierra Leone after being adopted by the DePrince family.
